One of the services I offer through Rites of Passage is House Blessing. A house blessing (also called a house cleansing) can take place when you move into a new home or anytime you want to set an intention for your living space. For example, you may wish to have a house blessing when settling into a new home, if you will be welcoming a new roommate into your home, before the birth of a baby, or after a violation of your space, such as theft or robbery.

People around the world have been blessing their dwellings for millennia. There are specific house blessing rituals associated with every major faith tradition. A house blessing, though, does not have to include a religious element. In blessing your home, you can decide what meaningful intentions you want to set based on your worldview and spiritual or secular perspective. You could set intentions that your home be a place of comfort, safety, and nurture….. joy, creativity, and inspiration….. warmth, refuge, and renewal…..

Your dwelling space reflects your inner-life and deserves attention and care. Blessing your home is one way to show that you value yourself, your home, and those who live with you (whether family, roommates, or beloved pets).

A house blessing can be private or combined with a house-warming party or other festive event. If friends and family join you to celebrate, you can ask them to gift you with words of blessing, rather than material items. A house blessing can include music, candles, and food. Specific blessings can be shared in each room based on the room’s function in your life. A house blessing can incorporate traditional elements or be thoroughly contemporary and personalized.
