Fatherless Father’s Day: A Moment of Remembrance

Zoom Workshop: Thursday, June 18th, 2020 7pm-8pm (ET)

“For those who have lost their father to death, Father’s Day can be difficult. During this gathering, we will hold space to honor our fathers through sharing, ritual, and meditation.”

Our culture celebrates Father’s Day with backyard cookouts and fishing trips. Fathers are gifted with tacky ties and “World’s Best Dad” mugs. But for those of us who have lost our fathers to death, fathers day can be accompanied by feelings of grief and loss. Even if you had a difficult relationship with your father, Father’s Day can bring up feelings of sadness and longing.

During Fatherless Father’s Day, part of the “Reimagine: Life, Loss, and Love” festival, we will hold space to honor our fathers and reflect on the many ways they impacted our lives, both good and challenging. Through sharing, ritual, and meditation we will create a place of trust to be present with all the emotions that arise.

Whether you lost your father recently or your father died long ago, you are welcome. This will be a space of community for all fatherless children (who lost their father to death). In preparation for our time together, please choose a item that represents your father for you and bring it to our online gathering.

Participation is limited to 16 individuals. The cost is $10. Registration is through Reimagine End of Life:

Journey with Death: Embracing the Now by Seeing the End

Could facing death bring more freedom and joy into your life? Exploring this often avoided topic can allow us to live with intention, consider what we want from our lives, the impact we want to make on the world, and what we want our loved ones to remember of us after we die. This workshop series includes guided meditation, contemplative practices, making end-of-life plans, setting goals based on the insights we gain, and much more. Come join us in discovering how moving into the awareness of dying can lead to more fully embracing living.

Celebrate Love! Valentine’s Day Rituals for Everyone

What comes to mind when you think about Valentine’s Day? Romance? Chocolates and roses? Candlelight dinners for two? Valentine’s Day is a day to celebrate love ~ and love is so much bigger than champagne toasts and romantic comedies! Whether you are happily single, looking for love, part of a couple, or grieving the loss of a loved one, Valentine’s Day is your day to celebrate love.

At “Celebrate Love! Valentine’s Day Rituals for Everyone,” we will explore the traditions and rituals of Valentine’s Day and create some new rituals of our own. Through ritual, meditation, and reflection, we will delve into our understandings and experiences of love. Bring a friend, come on your own, or invite a loved one. Let’s reclaim Valentine’s Day as a day to celebrate all the ways we experience love – love for our family members, love between friends, love for our pets, love between partners, love for loved ones lost, love of nature, love for our world!

Resolutions for Resilience

2020 is in full swing! How are those resolutions coming along? January 12th is reported to be the day most resolutions fail. Even for those who stick with it longer, U.S. News & World Report tells us that the success rate for New Year’s resolutions is only 20 percent. When we (inevitably) fail at our resolutions, we often blame ourselves and experience feelings of shame and guilt.

At “Resolutions for Resilience: A Ritual Based Workshop on the Transformative Power of Resolutions” we will re-frame the concept of resolutions and consider how to incorporate our goals into daily-life. Using the tools of ritual, meditation, and reflection, we will explore the motivations behind our resolutions, identify an internal goal versus an external goal, and actively create a resilient resolution.

No matter where you are with your 2020 resolutions (or perhaps you gave up on the whole resolution thing years ago), this workshop can help you identify healthy resolutions that can transform your daily life. January 1st is an arbitrary date. What is important is how you approach your resolutions spiritually and emotionally each day. Let’s explore together!

Blue Holiday Workshop

Our culture bombards us with messages of joy and happiness during the holiday season. Office parties, family gatherings, and gift giving all become occasions for socializing and festivity. But not everyone is up and cheery for the holidays. In fact, many people are dealing with hidden grief or loss. Mourning the death of a loved one, facing life after divorce, coping with a job loss, living with illness or trauma, and any number of other human situations can make this season painful.

If this describes the holiday season for you or someone you love, you are invited to attend the Rites of Passage, LLC “Blue Holiday Workshop” on Wednesday, December 18th, 2019 from 7pm-8:30pm in Room 7 at the O.N.E. Community Center, 20 Allen St., Burlington, VT. (Parking can be accessed off North St.)

This workshop will be a safe space of acknowledgment and acceptance. It will include space for reflection, a centering meditation, and time to share tools for navigating the holidays in ways that feel healing and life-affirming to you. Whether you embrace the religious or cultural aspects of the holiday season (or both) you are welcome. People of all secular or spiritual worldviews are encouraged to attend.

The workshop cost is $15 and space is limited to 15 people. Pre-registration is required. You can respond through Facebook, e-mail me directly at ritesofpassagevt@gmail.com, visit our website at https://ritesofpassagevt.com/, or call 802-825-8141 to reserve your spot. Payment will be received by cash or check at the time of the workshop.

The holiday season is hard for those whose hearts are hurting. You are not alone.
